Dear Neighbor | A Letter for the Universe

Our wonderful neighbors are moving out and onward.  The signs went in yesterday and it hit me like a ton of bricks -- this is really happening, as much as I have prayed it wouldn't.  We are saddened to see these fine folks, Keith & Kim and their twins, leave their family farm - a three generational tradition of Christmas tree farming.

The conversation got real last night in our household that our friends are moving on.

I was moping, saddened about it, and then Alanna said with a heart full of hope, "Maybe the new neighbors will have kids our age!"

So, the conversation began and the mood instantly changed.  We started a letter to the universe, and each of us added to it:

Dear Universe,

Please send us new neighbors with children - preferably ages 9 and 6 (girls are even better, but not entirely necessary, but that would be really nice).

Please send us new neighbors with a Momma and Daddy that farm, love the earth, trees, birds, ponds and traditions involving Christmas trees.  The bonus would be if they have the means, time and commitment to organic farming.

Please send us a Momma that has an artistic streak.  May she be an open, expressive woman; a lover of creation, music, light, gardening, her family, her faith, God and dedicated to her work as an artist.  And the bonus - she likes to cook and invite her neighbors over for summertime meals in the backyard where we will share laughter, catch fireflies and listen to the bullfrogs' songs at the pond's edge.  We don't mind quirky, funny, with a dash of sarcasm either -- completely good with all of that.  Maybe she will like bright colors, lace, flowers, painting and fixing up her new home and shopping trips to antique malls with her new Momma neighbor.  ;)

Please send us a Daddy with a heart of gold.  May he be dedicated to his family, patient beyond compare, and hard working.  May he like working with his hands: creating, refinishing, someone who prefers to fix the broken rather than produce more cheaply made products in foreign countries.  A man that treasures the glory in passing on traditions and teaching his children about loving simple pleasures.  May he be committed to loving his God and answering the call to be a family man, at all costs.  Please make sure he has a fun sense of humor, with a great smile; someone who loves music of many genres and isn't glued to his television or sports scores (I don't think I'm asking for too much, I'm just thinking of my new Momma friend and her happiness).

Universe, please send us new neighbors that are friendly, caring and loving; new friends that will prosper, grow and blossom in their new home.

And, Universe, if you would, please watch over our friends that are moving on.  Please bless them with good health, prosperity, new endeavors and adventures that keep their life enriching, enticing and happy.  We will miss them tremendously.

With love and enormous admiration,
your friends,
Barb & Kurt and family

you are my sunshine...

Happy Spring!

This was the scene as I trekked to the girls' school earlier this afternoon to pick them up for an early dismissal.  And the snow hasn't stopped yet.  I'm hopeful it will melt quickly with the warmer temps this weekend, truly hopeful.

This scene matches my mood today.  No sun shining on me right now, and my heart hurts with a heaviness I cannot seem to lift.  I know brighter days are coming and with them, a brighter, lighter me.  But right now, I just want to climb back into my warm, cozy bed and sleep until the spring actually decides to arrive.  Ever have one of these days?

I hear there's some amazing things happening in our solar system this weekend.  Not only the vernal equinox set for tonight at 6:45pm, but a solar eclipse and an exploding star!  Have you ever sat back in awe, thinking about the fact that we are hurling through space and time?  This thought instantly puts things in perspective for me.  Just incredible.   I hope the clouds clear and we get to see some of the sky - and soon!

I'll keep springtime thoughts on my mind and soon the sun will shine again, and my heart will mend, just as it has done countless times.

Happy Weekend, my friends!
Here's a sunny song to cheer us up!!  Keep looking up. :)
